The Accusation and the Mirror
In every new financial era, the old guard shouts the same thing: It is not real. It is criminal. It is a scam.
In crypto, that accusation crystallized with a now-iconic phrase: “It’s just money laundering.” It was not analysis but dismissal, a refusal to understand wrapped in moral certainty.
This work examines that tension — between genuine innovation and institutional disbelief, between frontier systems and legacy frameworks that cannot, or will not, interpret them.
Sometimes the accusation is projection. What the state calls laundering, the chain calls sovereignty.
This piece does not deny the charge. Yes, crypto moves money outside traditional channels. That is the point. Yes, it can be used anonymously. That is the feature.
Every system launders something. Fiat launders power. Bureaucracy launders blame. Crypto launders control, returning it to the individual.
